Habitat: native from Middle East, although its cultivation has been extended by the mediterranean warm countries. Spain is one of the leading producers in the world.
It is a highly aromatic herb specie. Its main essence, the anethole ,which isolated from the rest of the active plant principles and concentrated loses its curative properties and can even be toxic ( causing seizures ).
So anise liquor made with its essence, not possessing medicinal properties,but have other toxic effects, both due to alcohol as anethole.
By contrast, the natural anise fruit, is practically free from the essence's risks. This is due, in part that in addition of anethole, containing other substances such as phenols, malic acid, sugars and choline.
Properties
About the digestive system anise has an action aperitif, toning the stomach and digestive. Clean the intestines of fermentation and putrefaction.
Anise is part of the " tisane of the four seeds " along with caraway , fennel and coriander. Children and infants are very effective anise infusion in cases of gases or diarrhea. It asthmatic and bronchiti.
It is strongly recommended all who follow a plan to stop smoking, it acts as a real antidote to nicotine and snuff tars : clean irritating mucus bronchi and facilitates mucosal cells regeneration. Also replaced with a fresh scent, the snuff smell of breath who just quit smoking.

Precautions
It is not recommended administer the essential oil to children under six years or during pregnancy and lactation. Very high doses can be toxic, so should be used with moderation and under a professional advice.
Anise properties:
. Stimulates appetite.
· Helps digestion and helps in all cases of bloating , intestinal cramps and bloating after meals.
· Carminative; eliminates and prevents flatus fermentation in the gastrointestinal tract.
· Antispasmodic, expectorant breathing.
· Antiseptic and fungicide.
Internal use
2 to 3 drops, twice or three times a day, dissolved in honey, hot milk or a sugar cube.
External use
Apply compresses or massaging the area mixed with almonds oil.
