Risks By Electromagnetic Radiation - Part 1
The modern life with its accelerated development in all fields and the rampant growth of the technology that we dealt with by all sides giving us progress that facilitate many processes, it also brings us concerns and in many occasions are generalizing concepts founded or unfounded about the side effects that these developments can produce in human health.
We are in the midst of a tangled web of energy, magnetic fields, waves, of networks, sounds etc. , that we do not see, but that in some way can be positive or negatively affecting our lives.
In the space that surrounds us, where we move, where we live or work, today there is a reality, the influence of multiple electromagnetic waves generated by a large number of radio stations, television, radar, computers with wi-fi connection, cordless phones, cell phones, microwave ovens, laser, electrical power, communications antennas of all types, x-rays, radioisotope, ultraviolet light, power plants, electronic watches, tablets, elevators, or the ultrasound, etc., that are not otherwise forms of energy that travels in the form of electromagnetic waves.
It is a way of freeing up energy from various sources, that it may be natural or artificial. The main natural source is the solar electromagnetic energy, which radiates infrared waves, visible light and ultraviolet waves.
The accumulation of electric charges in the atmosphere by storms produces electrical fields naturally purpose. The earth's magnetic field, which guides the needle of the compass, and that use fish and birds to orient by theirself, it is also a source of magnetism. And are of artificial electromagnetic nature: electricity, radio, television, all the communication systems etc. , who are also sources of radiation.
The radiation can be ionizing , which contains enough energy to cause ionization or separation of electrons from their atoms or molecules. This can change the chemical reactions in the body or cause damage in biological tissues, including the DNA because it has the capacity to produce cancer, for example, gamma rays, x-rays, ultraviolet light of high energy and some subatomic particles.
Non-ionizing radiation, does not have enough energy to cause ionization. It can cause in the body a warming effect but the level of exposure is not sufficient for pruduce tissue damage. Are non-ionizing, electrical power, rf, microwaves, infrared rays, ultraviolet rays from low energy, and visible light.
The radiations are spread across a wide range according to their energy and their frequency, forming the electromagnetic spectrum, where in the higher part, there are gamma rays, followed by x-rays, ultraviolet rays and then the visible light and at the bottom, the infrared rays, microwaves, radio waves (radio) and then the extremely low frequencies.
We will continue with this theme in the next article (Part 2)
