Citronella Essential Oil
Citronella: this plant is related to the lemongrass and palmarrosa and belongs to the family of the tropical grasses. The most valued varieties come from Java, the Seychelles, New Guinea Guyana and Sri Lanka.
The main properties of the essential oil of citronella are:
Therapeutic properties:
Headache, mental fatigue, flu, insecticide, migraine, neurology, insect bites, insect repellent, colds, rheumatism, menstrual disturbances.
Natural insect repellent
The essential oil 100% pure citronella acts as sedative of the nervous system and is an excellent insect repellent, in particular of mosquitoes by means of candles or with diffuser.
In application,diluted in vegetable oil, prevents bites and if we have been bitten, applied on the insect bites allows us to reduce the inflammation. You can also be used for pets although its aroma do not like cats.
Cosmetic Properties:
Due to its power deodorizer and disinfectant, this oil is very present in soaps, insecticides and cleaning products.
Warning: prevents its use entirely if you are pregnant because it helps to regulate menstruation and might be abortifacient.
The curious fact: if you put a few drops in the bedsheets or close to the pillow can to help you sleep safe from mosquitoes. You can also rub the stings with a drop of essential oil of citronella to relieve the itching and inflammation and at the same time disinfect it. In children under the age of eight years should be used diluted:10 drops of essential oil of citronella in 25 ml of sweet almond oil.
How to Use the essential oil of citronella:
- to achieve a curative effect apply 1 to 2 drops in the bite of the insect.
- For a repellent effect 2 drops in the water in the atomizer.
- When you are in a state of fatigue, apply a few drops in a bath.
- Massage the temples when suffer headaches with a application diluted in a carrier oil or vegetable as can be the oil.
