Natural Sources Of Calcium-(non dairy sources of calcium)

There are other natural sources of calcium that are even more easily assimilated especially for people who suffer osteoporosis, the disease that gradually deteriorates the calcification of the bones.

Good sources of calcium
Foods that contain this mineral, in addition to dairy products, are the following:

• Seaweed and vegetables especially green leafy like broccoli, cabbage, celery.

• Whole grains such as oats, rice, barley, wheat, etc.

• horsetail which takes in infusion and contributes to preserve bone mass.

• Dried fruits such as almonds, hazelnuts, chestnuts, figs, raisins, and peanuts.

• Plant Milks such as rice milks, oatmeal, almonds, hazelnuts, sesame or chufas which can be purchased already prepared but it can be made in a home.

• Pulses cooked chickpeas, white and red beans, beans, soybeans, lentils.

• Blue Fish such as cod, mackerel, salmon, Sardines, shrimp and fresh herring.

• Seeds such as sesame, sunflower and pumpkin. .

What is perhaps many people unknown of it, and something that we must be careful is that we lose calcium, in a consistent manner, through  the urine and sweat and if we lose it excessively  with time  we can suffer from osteoporosis.

There are a number of food and factors that we must avoid since contributing to this loss as are:

• sugar, sugary drinks, sodas, juices artificial, etc and refined grain: these produce impoverishment of micronutrients minerals and vitamins necessary to absorb the calcium.

• Genetic Factors. Are Not modifiable but can be alleviated with proper diet and exercise as well how by eliminating other risk factors.

• Alcoholism and smoking reduce the minerals.

• Caffeine. Like salt, increases the loss of calcium through the urine.

• Lack of physical exercise. A sedentary lifestyle is a serious risk factor. Bad posture also. Lack of phosphorus and magnesium.

• Hormonal. In the women menopause, the estrogen deficiency is one of the causes of loss of calcium. Not to mention the fact that certain medications that contain thyroid hormones or steroids increase such loss.

• Prolonged immobility.

• The dairy products. Although it may seem contradictory can be more problematic than beneficial to the body because  sometimes are contaminated with antibiotics. In addition, many people are not well assimilated the lactose or milk sugar or have allergic reactions.
