Potatoes

White potatoes ( which , incidentally, can also find red, yellow , purple , etc. . ) Many health professionals claim that potatoes are bad carbohydrates because they are believed that potatoes have a high glycemic index.




First, the glycemic index is not necessarily the most important factor in the choosing carbohydrate.
The combination of foods are important in how your body processes the carbohydrates and the associated blood sugar and the insulin response you receive.


For example if you combine carbohydrates with a high glycemic index with an extra source of fiber, healthy fats , or even certain proteins , many times the blood sugar and glycemic response will decrease considerably by the way you combine your food.


Well , returning to the point of white potatoes are  really healthy carbohydrates as long as you eat them  in the right way. with all the shell and and please do not ruin frying. Potato chips is the worst thing ever invented for your health, because they are immersed in a scorching bath of trans fats in the deep fryer with hydrogenated oils that are typically used .


Keep in mind that potatoes contain many vitamins and minerals, do not forget to eat the shell and all since you get from it a decent amount of fiber as well.I will share with you one of my favorite recipes for a slender body using potatoes:

The desired amount of baby potatoes ( white potatoes mix , red , yellow and purple )

* 1 red pepper
* 1 green pepper
* 1 yellow pepper
* 1 or 2 onions
* A couple of garlic, minced
* 1 to 2 tablespoons olive oil or coconut oil
* A little salt and pepper to taste ( I like to use sea salt instead of commercial common salt).


Cut the potatoes into small pieces and put them steam until soft . Cut peppers and onions into strips and add the chopped garlic in a pan with olive oil and cook them, then add the steamed potatoes .

Mix everything together and serve. This is a delicious and healthy recipe that goes great with chicken or red meat.

Today I want to talk about carbohydrates and in particular on the " white foods " as well as potatoes. One of the reasons why I want to talk about this issue is that many health professionals and fitness trainers speak ill of potatoes, saying that are a bad choice because they have a high glycemic index. Some even say such ridiculous things as "avoid white carbohydrates" .




Well , first I agree that white bread and refined white sugar are two of the worst things that can nourish our bodies, but otherwise definitely disagree with avoiding " white carbohydrates " completely. I know there has been talk lately of eating colorful foods and protective antioxidants that they contain. They tell you that you should focus on colorful foods and avoid whites.


White foods are not necessarily always the Enemy number one.It's true that colorful foods are great,but it's a big mistake to specifically avoid white foods ! There are plenty of white foods that have specific nutrients that are hard to find in others . Here are some examples .


Onions and Garlic
Both are soft and full of protective phytonutrients , vitamins and minerals that are not easy to find in others and in a normal diet ... such nutrients as alicin , quercetin ( an important flavonoid ) , chromium and other anti -inflammatory and nutrients.


Cauliflower
Another example of white food that 's great for you is cauliflower. Cauliflower is loaded with vitamin C , fiber , minerals, and special compounds such as glocosinolates and thiocyanates which are especially abundant in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli , cauliflower and cabbage.

And a little known fact is that some of the compounds in cruciferous vegetables is that they help combat other estrogenic compounds in our food supply and environment and can help prevent excess belly fat. So to eat cauliflower.


Mushrooms
Not many people realize this, but surprisingly , even white mushrooms have high levels of nutrients and antioxidants. White mushrooms have a couple types of antioxidants called polyphenols and ergothioneine.

* When sleeping on your side can prevent or lessen respiratory difficulties that could arise in another position . Case 1 . If you sleep on your back :
The pillow must be relatively thin . If it is excessively thick , the neck will be excessively flexed forward, but the absence of pillow cause just the opposite ,hyperextension of the neck. Both positions , prolonged over time can develop into cervical contractures.

The goal that arises, therefore , is to make the pillow ensure that the angle formed between the cervical spine and spinal column , is the same when the individual is standing and lying .


* Many experts agree that this is the best sleeping position . Lie upward allowing to stand the entire column on the mattress and head well supported in the pillow is ideal for proper rest. For people who tend to sleep in this position , it is advisable to place a small pillow under knees so that they are slightly bent. This position allows the whole lumbar completely rests on the mattress , while avoiding contractures risk due to relaxation which occurs .


* Regarding the pillow should be comfortable , it should not be very high, so avoid having cervical contractures having neck excessively  flexed forward. Furthermore sleep without a pillow cause neck tension overnight.


* In conclusion  the proper height will be that, which allows the cervical spine form the same angle as when you stand upright.

 
Case 2 . If you sleep on your side :

The perfect pillow should be thick as it is advisable to keep the neck on the shaft which marks the dorsal column, so it does not drop or rotate.


The side positions , with the legs and hips flexed and neck into the shaft of the rest of the column, is also known as the fetal position and is the most recommended for people with lumbar pain.It is a neutral spine position for preventing weight-bearing on this. If the side you choose is right, it should flex the hip and left knee, independently of the other knee keeps or straight and turn your shoulders.



* Then we should adapt the pillow to neck adopting a similar curvature to that way when we are standing, the ideal height is the second distance  from the neck to the shoulder , keeping the neck relaxed  but aligned with the spine .
