Longevity And Health - Part 2

The book "100 of 100" picks up a hundred interviews with people who have met or exceeded a century of life, 80 of whom are women and 20 men, distributed by the whole spanish territory.

At the same time, the publication distinguishes four types of person centenarian: Survivor, Accommodated, Resolutive and restless.

Centenary "Survivor": usually has humble origins and rural.Throughout his/her life has played physical work, requiring little intellectual engagement. And currently shows a greater tendency to cognitive impairment by their low level of schooling. Paco, one of them, born 100 years ago in Leon province and enjoys a splendid health. His secret, "eat well and not protest never by anything," he says.

Longevity factors
The centenarians that responds to the typology Accommodated have a socio-economic and cultural level medium-high, from urban origin, who has been devoted to liberal professions. Their job meant mental activities and alsoallowed them to have free time.

At present enjoy interacting with others. Carmen, among them, was born in Chile 106 years ago and when she turned 9, she and her family moved toSpain. Her recommendation for aging with health is to practice exercise:

"I go to the gym every morning because, he says, I want to continue living and moreover, the best possible", she said.

The old person "Resolutive", corresponds to people who are active, with a degree of basic schooling, who have faced a multitude of adverse circumstances in their long life.Today are homemade people that are attracted by solitary hobbies such as writing and walking.

A representative of this  centenary typology is Antonio, Pontevedra, is the first of his immediate family who comes to 100 years. For he has been instrumental "have the capacity to love and enthusiasm for life".

Finally, the model  Restless, denotes that since their childhood had favorable circumstances that allowed them to develop their projects. They are people that have had a very active life, physically and psychologically and this has allowed us to travel frequently and expanding horizons. They are always accustomed  to learn new things.

An example is Teresa: was born in Gerona for 106 years and for her, "the nutrition and the active life have been the key to reaching this age".

Physical keys
After the study confirms that  genetic component is crucial and essential to a healthy life and longevity: the majority centanarian people interviewed  have had or currently have longevous family.

• The physical scope, genetic information and environment, therefore influences very directly on longevity and it is the most relevant factor.

Longevity And Health - Part 1

A healthy diet maintaining active body and mind is some of the keys to aging well. Witnesses of  civil war, two world war and of the greatest technological revolution in the history form, among others, the hundred centenarians surveyed in the book "The 100 of 100 ", edited by the Pfizer Foundation, of which has extracted the main tips for successful aging health, in a changing society and accelerated in excess.

"The one hundred of one hundred" contains the testimony of 100 centenarians to publicize their way of life and listen, orally, their experiences and opinions.

The goal raised has been to know what factors and personal circumstances, beyond the genetic conditions of each person, can speak in favor of  long life and healthy.

Secrets of longevity
This qualitative study has been done based on the testimonies of 80 women and 20 men centenarians, distributed by all the autonomous communities of Spain, of which 40 expressed a desire to do so anonymously, giving their testimony without photo and personal data.

And the methodology used has been this:
• Interviewing people who have met or exceeded the one hundred years, for knowing their habits of life and hear directly from their experiences and
views, in order to identify the keys that may have contributed to their longevity.

• Choose to these people consulted in function of their cognitive status and predisposition - also of their families - to participate in the study,
to be essential for the same interview people that retain the capacity for communication.

As well the things, and as a result of the study, it was concluded that the longevity is structured around three aspects:

• 1)- Physical determinants, in addition to genetic aspects involved food and physical activity that we have habitually.

• 2)- Personal constraints, i.e. education and experiences that make up our lives.

• 3)- Social determinants, which are determined by the relationship we have with others. In addition, we need to pay attention to these aspects and learn from our elders for that, like them, we discover what aging means adding life to years.

According to our elders, practicing physical exercise, make homemade meals prepared with natural products and eat with tranquillity have been the key to reach a century of life. But along with the physical behaviors, and as floating on all these, the vitality of these people is also due to their positive attitude toward life and the difficulties.

For surveyed centenarians, bet on health means living in moderation. As an example Josefa, Orense, who has already served 101 years and retains the wrestler spirit  and optimistic that enabled her to overcome all the difficulties:

"In my life, he asserts, were many calamities that I had to overcome, but I am still alive, because I live and I'm happy every day".
